Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley - I went there in February 2011--private dining room with tasting menu. Given the unbelievable cost, the food wasn't as spectacular or creative as I expected. Worst of all was the service, with the staff continually confusing the vegetarians, non-vegetarians, and non-pork eaters! Not the level of service I would expect from a 2* restaurant, and it certainly influenced my impression overall. I had a much more enjoyable private dining experience at The Square.
Rowley's on Jermyn Street - kind of one of those old London institutions (at least that's how they are described on their website), they say they are famous for their entrecote with herb butter. Now, the herb butter IS delicious and I think they also put blue cheese in it. But it wasn't enough to cover the poor quality of the steak I had--tough and lacking in flavor. Not worth the price, even with the 50% discount for early dining. Considering all the great places for steak in London this one just doesn't compare.
